I love using all kinds of FUN embellishments when creating my hair bows. The photo is one of my favorite ribbon bows that I added some cool boa material too on the base. I just adore how the blue and brown look together and was super excited when I found the boa feathers on sale at a local craft store.

What is your favorite embellishment to add when you are making hair bows? Do you prefer small buttons? Just lots of ribbon layers? Boa? Ostrich feathers? Korker ribbon bursts? Something else?

I have to admit, I'm a big fan of all types of fabric hair bows but I also just love korker bows. What is your favorite style? Layered boutique bows are GREAT if you have a bit of extra time since you have to plan out coordinating ribbon colors and all your layers. The most fun ones to make (I think!) are loopy bows because you can add all the beautiful ribbon in any sizes you want...and lots of colors without regard to what really matches. Some of the most beautiful loopy hairbows are the ones with all kinds of size and color ribbon!

How about flower bows on small clips? Or tiny little bows? There are really so many styles of bows for girls hair that I could go on and on!

Tulle skirts have always been a popular play time dress up costume for many little girls but more recently we are seeing them as skirts and dresses for every day wear thanks to tulle skirts becoming a trendy and fashionable outfit. Tutus are not just for ballet anymore! And for good reason, tutus are so much fun to wear and are just beautiful! I’ve seen girls of all ages (from infants to teenagers) sporting cute tutu skirts and dresses. The most popular type of tutu for little girls tends to be short, fluffy, and full worn with leggings or tights underneath. Older girls even choose to wear jeans under their trendy, hip tutus for going to concerts or clubs. During the holidays, many fashionable moms will have tutu dresses for their daughters to wear. Red or green Christmas tutu empire waist dresses are popular, as well as red, white, and blue Fourth of July tutu skirts. There seems to be a tutu skirt or dress appropriate for any occasion or holiday from play time to Sunday best dress.

A number of local boutiques have started to carry more varieties of tutus and I’ve seen this trendy tulle skirt even featured in fashion shows. Unfortunately the cost of purchasing these pretty tutus is cost prohibitive to many since they typically run $25-100 per tutu.

It’s with all this in mind that I have created MissTutu.com to share my tutu making fun with moms who have girls that want lots of fun tutus without spending a fortune. The fifteen no-sew tutu instructions offered are for a variety of tutu skirts and dresses and none of them require a sewing machine. Oh and did I mention the first lesson is free, so even if you just want to make one basic type of tutu skirt, you can get started right away with the basic lesson and a few simple supplies from a local craft store.

After you learn how to make decorative bows you will then need some ideas on how you can use your decorative bow. Decorative bows and gift bows are great additions to any present, package, basket, or vase. Try adding your decorative bow to the handle of a basket and then filling the basket with all kinds of goodies. You can even make a decorative bow using ribbon that will coordinate with the theme of your basket.

Decorative bows are a great touch to a hand-made item you are giving as a gift. For example, you can place a decorative bow around a ceramic vase or a framed piece of artwork or framed photo. You can even wrap the gift first and then place your decorative bow on the outside of the wrapped package.

I also like to use decorative bows as part of the gift itself. Try creating a beautiful centerpiece with items you can find in the craft store. Then add bows throughout and finish off with pillar candles; you can even place decorative bows at the base of the candle. Another way to use decorative bows as part of a gift would be to create a wreath (or even buy a ready made plain wreath at the craft store) and then decorate it with ribbon wrapped around the wreath with decorative bows (one or even a few) to jazz it up.

People just love hand-made items to show that you put time into making their gift for them. Decorative bows are a great way to use some beautiful ribbon and just a few other supplies to create a gorgeous decoration for any gift. Add that special touch to your gift by finishing it off with decorative bows.

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to make hair bows for every holiday for your little girl? Luckily it is very easy to do. Craft stores offer a large variety of ribbon before every major holiday and for every season. You can also find other colors, patterns, and designs of ribbon to make hair bows for sporting events, new babies, graduations, birthdays, and just about anything you can think of. Take a minute to walk through the ribbon aisle at your local craft store; well, it might take you more than a minute because there are so many beautiful choices. Now you have an idea of the various types of ribbon available to make hair bows for any occasion you might have over the course of a year.

The next thing I recommend would be to walk down the button embellishment aisle where you can find all types of buttons in the shapes of various objects, characters, and letters. These are perfect ways to easily embellish your hair bows for the holidays after you make hair bows. Also, just before a major holiday, the craft stores will have extra embellishments for sale for that holiday. Of course the prices will be significantly lower just after the holiday ends, so if you are planning to make hair bows the following year as well, then would be a good time to pick up some extra embellishments when you make hair bows all year-round.

As you can see, with a little creativity and planning at the craft store, you will find it very easy to make hair bows for any and all occasions. Your little girl will certainly enjoy having a fun accessory for every occasion when you make her a hair bow for each holiday and special day. Hair bows for any occasion are also a great gift. For our wedding this past October, we gave our three flower girls a beautiful hand-made hair bow that they got to wear for the wedding and then keep. It was certainly a big hit to make a wedding party hair bow and give three girls the gift of beautiful hair bows.

Have you ever wanted to make a hair bow but were overwhelmed with the many choices of ribbon at the craft store and did not know where to start? It’s true, there are tons and tons of beautiful ribbon waiting to be taken off the roll and turned into something magical such as a hair bow! However this can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start after you decide to make a hair bow. I suggest that you take a few outfits out of the closet or drawer that you want to make a hair bow to go with. Then from there you can determine coordinating colors of ribbon that would look nice with the outfit. This makes things much easier when you want to make a hair bow because you will already have an outfit in mind for your daughter to wear and you can easily pick out ribbon.

Also, you will be able to save a lot of money when you chose to make a hair bow because ribbon and the other basic materials to make a hair bow are not that expensive. Pre-made hair bows that you can buy at the store to match outfits can cost up to $15.00 but you can make hair bows for a whole lot less money.

You might even be able to earn money when you make a hair bow too! I have seen many women who started to just make hair bows for their children but then found out that so many others wanted the hair bows too that they began to help their friends by showing them how to make a hair bow or even just getting paid to make a hair bow for them.

I have been so excited that I was able to learn how to make a bow! It has been a lot of fun to know that I can make a bow for my friend’s infant girls. My favorite hair bows to make for infants and little girls would be the interchangeable hair bow headbands that can be used around an infant head to hold any type of small hair bow. I also learned how to make a bow called a trendy clip which is great for little girls with fine hair. It is a small bow that is on an alligator clip that stays really well in thin hair which so many little girls have. How great is it that I know how to make a bow that even girls with fine hair can wear; they certainly do not want to be left out when they see so many older girls wearing beautiful hair bows.

If you want to learn how to make a bow for an infant or little girl with fine hair, I would definitely suggest making an interchangeable hair bow headband or even a trendy clip. Those would be the two best hair bows to start with, until they are older and their hair can hold a larger bow. There are so many great types of ribbon available at your local craft store that you can buy to make bows of all different styles. You can even find great deals in the dollar bins at the craft store and also clearance ribbon available throughout the year. When you make bows yourself you will certainly save a lot of money and you will have fun too. I was surprised that many of the already made bows from various types of holiday ribbon for sale at the craft store were priced up to $70.00 for one large bow. You could make bows for just a fraction of that cost. Even the more elaborate bows with a few different layers of various ribbon is something you could make instead of purchasing.

I love being able to make bows that I can use to decorate my house or give as gifts. I think it adds such a special personal touch when you can share that you know how to make bows and created one especially for them.
